ICA-Edu Webinar No 3
AI can do your students' written assignments, so what now for assessments?
Was held on Wednesday 3 May from 13.00 - 14.00 CET
Assessment in education is changing AIs such as ChatGPT a language model bot is moving rapidly into everyday life. Our response to AI entering the learning space will be to look at what we are assessing and why we are assessing it. This webinar will investigate practical solutions to the integration of such AIs into the skills development of our students. Ideas around assessing the writing process rather than the final product will be discussed.
David Smith, Professor of Bioscience Education at Sheffield Hallam University, UK.
David is a National Teaching Fellow and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His innovative practice has been awarded the Royal Society of Biology HE educator of the year award 2019 and recognised by his students with the Sheffield Hallam University Inspirational Teaching Award for the last ten years. David actively collaborates to develop and disseminate his own and others teaching practices, working both within his university and across the sector in learning, teaching and assessment groups. Through these activities, he builds technology-enhanced learning methods for student engagement in both the classroom and laboratory. Pedagogical publications are centred on student interaction and engagement. His biological research interests combine protein chemistry, cell culture and mass spectrometry to investigate the molecular basis of Parkinson's disease and cancer spheroid models. Studies focus on developing 3D cell culture models and investigating these through proteomics, metabolomics, and imaging technologies.
